MPs Get Shs13billion Cash For Age Limit Consultations

Members of Parliament have finally received Shs13billion to aid them during their consultation meetings on the controversial ‘Age limit’ Bill.

For the last weeks, MPs have been blowing their fingers waiting to get the cash to kick start their consultations.

However, Chris Obore, Director Communications and Public Affairs, Parliament, on Monday confirmed thatclerk to parliament has provided Shs13 billion from the MPs’ emoluments which will be refunded next month by the Ministry of Finance. Emoluments are allowances for MPs for fuel, transport among others.

“We managed to get Shs13billion which has been wired to each MP’s account. This money was picked from MPs’ emoluments and each MP has got Shs29million. We hope that the ministry of Finance will refund these funds,” Obore said adding that the MPs’ consultation meetings will run from October 25 to November 08, 2017.

Recently, some anti-Age limit MPs including John Baptist Nambeshe, Manjiya County MP vowed not to pick the age limit cash saying it is wastage of resources because constituents have already rejected the Bill that intends to lift presidential age limit among others.

Obore however emphasized that it is the obligation of parliament to facilitate all their MPs to do consultation works.

“It is parliament’s obligation is facilitate its MPs and whoever feels the money is not necessary then they are at liberty to return it to the clerk to parliament,” Obore said.
