The Lions Club of Kampala Central successfully organized its fifth annual Lions Marathon on Sunday 22nd October, 2017 at the Makerere University Grounds under the theme “RUN FOR SIGHT”.
The marathon which kicked off at 7am was graced with the attendance of invited Chief Guest, the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, who flagged off the 21, 10 and 5 km marathon challenge that saw over 1000 people participate. The main sponsor Kingdom Rice Ltd, a brand of FOL Logistics Uganda Ltd, was represented by the company’s Director of Strategic Planning and Development, Mrs. Elizabeth Kasenene Rumanyika.
Lions Club of Kampala Central in partnership with FOL Logistics will have three Kingdom Rice Eye Medical Camps starting with the one that was held at the marathon. Free eye screening was provided as well as distribution of free corrective spectacles and eye drops to those that got a check-up. The 2nd eye camp will be held next week in Mparo Kabale on Wednesday 25th to Friday 27th October and the 3rd eye medical camp in Nwoya, Northern Uganda on 24th -26th November. Over 1000 cataract eye surgeries are expected to happen during these medical eye camps.
