Thousands of mourners on Thursday turned up for the final send-off of late Ambassador Paul Orono Etyang, who also served as the Deputy Prime Minister in 1998.
Ambassador Etyang died on December 31, 2020 at International Hospital Kampala where he was under intensive care after suffering from COVID-19. He died at the age of 83.
Etyang was today laid to rest at his ancestral home in Mella in Tororo District. Late Paul Etyang is the father to flight captain Michael Etyang who recently flew in Uganda’s maiden Airbus A330-800 neo and Bombardier.
President Yoweri Museveni in his message read by State minister for Minerals, Sarah Opendi, eulogised Papa Etyang as a diligent public servant and politician who served this government in various capacities with utmost commitment and has left behind an inspiring and enviable legacy.
“I join and share with you the grief in this difficult moment and I pray that God gives you courage to go through this time,” Museveni said in his speech.
Government made a contribution of Shs50m for the burial of Etyang. He was also accorded a state funeral with a gun salute.
Other top dignitaries who attended the burial ceremony include; Capt Mike Mukula, NRM vice chairperson for Eastern region, State Minister for Fisheries, Hellen Adoa, Sanjay Tanna, MPs, religious leaders etc.
