After less than 14 days since parliament passed the Constitution Amendment (No.2) Bill, 2017 also known as Age limit Bill, President Yoweri Museveni has assented his signature on the Bill.
According to assistant presidential press secretary Lindah Nabusayi, President Museveni signed the Bill on December 27, 2017 before it was sent to the clerk to parliament.
“It is true HE signed the age limit bill,” Nabusayi told Telesqop.
Director of Communication and Public Affairs, Parliament, Chris Obore said that the Bill is now a Constitutional Amendment Act after parliament received a signed copy from the president on Tuesday, January 02, 2018.
” It was signed on 27 December, 2017. PPS wrote a cover letter on December 28. We received it today(Tuesday),” Obore said.
On December 20, 2017, a majority of over 300 MPs passed the Bill to amend article 102(b) to lift presidential age limit. Parliament also passed to extend parliamentary and presidential tenure with immediate effect from the current 5years to 7years and also restore presidential term limits.
