The contentious Constitutional Amendment Bill that is aimed at scrapping article 102(b) to allow President Yoweri Museveni to rule for life will be tabled this afternoon.
According to the Order Paper, Igara West County MP Raphael Magyezi will this afternoon present his age limit bill titled “The Constitution Amendment Bill, 2017.”
Article 102 (b) of 1995 Constitution says that, a person is not qualified for election as President unless that person is not less than 35 years and not more than 75 years of age. President Museveni will be 77years of age in 2021, thus illegible for reelection.
Magyezi was last week given leave to bring his private member’s bill after opposition MPs were kicked out of the chambers by SFC commandos in a fight that was characterized by kickboxing, flying chairs and destruction of property.
What is more controversial is that Age limit Bill is going to be presented when opposition MPs have boycotted the House in solidarity with their 24 members who were last week suspended for indiscipline.
