Ugandan Actress Florence Kasumba Lands Lion King Role, To Star alongside Beyoncé

Ugandan actress Florence Kasumba seems determined to make a name for herself in Hollywood. After her cameo appearance in Marvel’s Captain America-Civil War as Ayo, the body guard of the Black Panther, Kasumba has landed yet another role that could propel her acting career. The sexy Ugandan babe set to feature in the upcoming The Lion King, a musical drama film directed and co-produced by Jon Favreau, produced by Walt Disney Pictures.

The movie is a remake of Disney’s 1994 animated film of the same name and is set to be released on July 19, 2019. The 1994 animated film The Lion King was a critical and commercial hit and beloved by families. The Disney movie won two Oscars and has grossed more than $968 million worldwide. Kasumba landed the role of Shenzi whose character she will voice. Shenzi is one of the three (hilarious hyenas) secondary antagonists in The Lion King and one of the three main antagonists in The Lion King  1½.  She is one of Scar’s chief henchmen, along with Banzai and Ed. In the original movies, Shenzi was voiced by legendary actress Whoopi Goldberg. The Ugandan actress will star alongside other big time Hollywood A-listers including globally celebrated music icon Beyoncé Knowles.

The curvy and gorgeous superstar singer will take over the role of Nala, who was originally voiced by Moira Kelly. Other stars who will lend their voices to the much anticipated remake include Emmy and Golden Globe awards winner Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, John Oliver, John Kani, Alfre Woodard, Eric Andre, Keegan-Michael Key, J.D. McCray and Shahadi Wright Joseph.

Kasumba who was born in Kampala on 26th October 1976, has also acted in German and Dutch films and will reprise her Ayo role in the upcoming Black Panther. She also played Senator Acantha in Wonder Woman and the Wicked Witch of the East in the NBC television series Emerald City. In 2016, Kasumba was nominated for the Black Entertainment Film fashion Television & Arts Awards for International Rising Star against Lupita Nyong’o.
